In December of 1864, Ezra T. Benson (an Apostle of the LDS Church) had a meeting with the members of the Church in Logan in which they decided to build a tabernacle. Although construction began in the spring of 1865, the building was not completed until 1891. One reason for this delay was that in 1877, the Church decided to build a temple in Logan. The construction of the temple was given first priority, and tabernacle construction was put on hold for several years. In November 1891, President Wilford Woodruff dedicated the completed Logan Tabernacle.
